White House Announces Intent to Nominate Senate Counsel Roisman as SEC Commissioner

This week, the White House announced that it intends to announce Senate Banking Committee Chief Counsel Elad Roisman as a Republican SEC Commissioner, replacing Commissioner Michael Piwowar, who has announced his retirement effective July 7. Commissioner Piwowar’s term officially expires June 5, although he can remain in office until the earlier of when he is replaced or December 31, 2019. Roisman has been on the staff of the Senate Banking Committee since 2014, and prior to that, he served as securities counsel to SEC Commissioner Daniel M. Gallagher. The White House has not yet announced an intent to nominate an individual to replace Democrat Commissioner Cara M. Stein, whose term expired last June and who must leave office by December 31.
